Waiting on the Spirit

For Wilshire Baptist Church

So, it’s no big secret now that our pastor search committee at Wilshire Baptist Church has chosen the person they believe is the best possible candidate to lead our congregation into the future. But the reveal has yet to happen and so we must wait a little longer.

No doubt the feelings of wondering and wishing that many of us have experienced over these past months have intensified. Some will be listening and watching for hints in the words and the body language of committee members in these days before the name is officially announced.

Sinking Stands and Other Life Hacks

At a recent deacons meeting at Wilshire, Debbie Meripolski, our deacon chair, was speaking from behind a black metal music stand that had been provided as a podium when she noticed it slowly sinking. She was surprised by that, but I wasn’t. I interrupted her briefly and knelt on the ground next to the stand to clamp a large metal binder clip right above where the silver piston meets the black cylinder. Fixed.

Tricks and Treats

For Wilshire Baptist Church

We had approximately 100 kids at our door for Halloween this year. I say “we,” but it actually was just LeAnn, because with COVID, I heard the kids and sometimes I peeked from a distance, but I didn’t get near the door.

This is my first time in the COVID barrel, and I won’t go on about it because while my case is mild, many have had horrific experiences with it, and beyond that, I think we’re all tired of talking about it. I’ll just say that COVID is neither a trick nor a treat to be shared at the door on Halloween night or at any other time.
