0.1. That was the tiny gap on a Wednesday morning at Wilshire between being allowed to donate blood and being sent home with a “thanks, but no thanks.”

When you donate blood there is a pre-screening process to make sure you are healthy and thus eligible. That includes answering 54 questions about medical history and lifestyle, and getting pulse, temperature and blood pressure checked. The last step is a hemoglobin test, which is a simple finger prick and a drop of blood squeezed onto a slide and put into a scanner.

Random Jesus

For Wilshire Baptist Church

We spent all of January 2 packing away Christmas. As usual, we assessed some decorations – mostly lights and garland – to see how worn and tired they were. Some went back in boxes for next year, some went in the trash, and a few items were set aside for donations. But after a full day of work, and only a couple of good head bangs on the low “hobbit door” entrance into our attic, we got it all put away until next year.

Renewal

For Wilshire Baptist Church

As this is being posted, we’re in San Antonio for the wedding vow renewal of my brother and his wife on their 25th anniversary. We are there because we are family, of course, but also because in a momentary lapse of judgement, they asked me to “officiate.” When I expressed my doubts, my brother reasoned that they were already married so there was no way I could mess that up and say something that would unmarry them. So it shall be.
