This past fall we didn’t get to make our annual trip to a national park, but as I wrote here in November, we did make it to a pair of state parks in the Texas Hill Country. And in late November, we traveled to Glacier National Park by way of a Smithsonian webinar about the geology of the park. It was interesting, mind boggling, soul stirring and faith fortifying, but maybe not in the way expected.

It was a surprise but not unusual that we were gifted with a box of fruit and other goodies from Harry & David during the holidays. That happens every so often and it’s always appreciated. But what was most surprising was a note inside the box.

Field Trip to the Farm

Before Christmas I wrote about my annual tradition of taking George Gagliardi to get a Christmas tree. Well, the other end of that tradition is the post-holiday tree removal. George’s apartment community doesn’t allow on-site tree disposal, so I come after he removes the ornaments and carry the tree away. For some years I took the tree to Flag Pole Hill for recycling until the park department quit doing that. I’ve done the same in Garland and I’ve even just taken it home for our weekly brush collection. This year we did something new and got an education in the process.
